Swinburne University

Description:

Three Indigenous Learning Circles located at the university’s Hawthorn, Croydon and Wantirna campuses in Melbourne were designed in collaboration between Mantirri Design and Greenaway Architects with Wurundjeri Elders, Indigenous university students and staff and the university’s Moondani Toombadool Centre. The Indigenous Learning Circles integrate aspects of local Country, people, culture and art.

These spaces offer university students and others an opportunity to learn in the outdoors instead of the traditional classroom environment. These spaces are places that resonate with Indigenous students, alike and offer: a pedagogical learning experience, bring people together, celebrate culture, bring in a landscape offering and an opportunity to engage and understand the importance of Country.
