Western Sydney University

Description:

The Western Sydney University - Indigenous Centre of Excellence Design Competition was led by ARM Architecture and TCL in association with Mantirri Design, who played an Indigenous Design Lead and Landscape Architecture role.

Led by First Nations practitioners, crafted by Country and guided by Elders and Knowledge Keepers, the design proposal connects with the roots that bind Dharug Ngurra (Dharug Country) made possible through deep listening, learning from the wisdom of the old people and restoring balance in the modified landscape of the project site.

We have put Country first. Our design emerges from powerful storywork and is entirely influenced by Country: human, non-human and more than human. We created a balance of programmed and natural spaces which are welcoming and inviting for all. Our design is highly resilient and flexible, and embraces the opportunity for ongoing design development and growth. The Indigenous Living Cultural Lab approach that was developed for the proposal will create a ripple of change beyond the boundaries of the site.
