Hills, Plains, Coast

Description:

The Hills, Plains, Coast landscape design was part of a road project that re-aligned one major road and two secondary roads from a staggered T-junction to a single intersection. The three roads are Hampstead Road, Muller Road and Regency Road in Adelaide SA.

Some places have the big things like: The Big Pineapple in Woombye QLD, The Big Banana in Coffs Harbour NSW or The Big Lobster at Kingston SA. This project has The Big Sectional Line. The orange hebel sound wall that was built as part of the works represents a sectional line through the Kaurna/Adelaide landscape, hence the title Hills, Plains, Coast. Up to and around the colonial settlement of Adelaide, the Kaurna people travelled from the hills, across the plains and to the coast and back every year following the seasons. The plant palette for this design also depicts plants found in the hills, on the plains and on the coast.
