Uncle Archie Roach and Aunty Ruby Hunter Memorial
Description:
Located at Atherton Gardens, Fitzroy in Melbourne. The Uncle Archie Roach AC AM and Aunty Ruby Hunter Memorial was delivered as a collaborative model with renowned sculptor Darien Pullen, Meridian and landscape architecture by Jefa Greenaway, Greenaway Architects and Paul Herzich, Mantirri Design.
The winding pathway leading up to the bronze sculpture maps Country by tracing their journeys across the lands of their relevant Aboriginal language groups of Uncle Archie (Bundjalung/Gunditjmara) and Aunty Ruby (Ngarrindjeri/Kokatha/Pitjantjatjara) and arriving on Wurundjeri Country.
Embedded into the colours of Country pathway are imprints of their spirit totems: Wedge-tailed Eagle, Red-bellied Black Snake, Pelican, Crow, Murray Cod, Wombat, Black Swan and Black Cockatoo. At the top of the pathway, standing at the rise and standing proud is the memorial of Uncle Archie and Aunty Ruby, forever watching over ‘the meeting place’.
