Narnungga Parkland 25

Description:

Narnungga (Kaurna for ‘Place of Native Pine’) Park Land 25 was once the SA Water Depot at Thebarton in Adelaide SA. The depot was transformed back into Adelaide City Park Lands in 2013. This 5.5 hectare site is an addition to the existing Narnungga Park Land 25, which is bordered by Glover Avenue, West Terrace and Port Road on the north-north western fringe of Adelaide’s CBD.

The site was contaminated from being a depot for 126 years. Large repositories were excavated, filled, and turned into large soil mounds, which provide great views looking out and over the western most edge of Adelaide’s CBD skyline.

The landscaping features more than 23,000 Kaurna plants, Water Sensitive Urban Design, a grassed amphitheater embraced by a large stand of native pines, walking and cycling paths, safety lighting, and landscape furniture and public art.
