Panpapanpalya

Description:

This Panpapanpalya (Conference place) artwork by mantirridesign and Gerry McMahon was installed at Hart’s Mill on the Port River at Port Adelaide SA in 2015 and is part of the Mudlhangga to Yartabuulti Track Project, which is essentially a trail of Kaurna and Aboriginal stories that were told by some of the local Port Adelaide Aboriginal community using art to provide places of recognition and connections to Country.

The artwork celebrates and values the strong Kaurna connection to the place and area and the artworks along the track are very site specific. The artwork represents the sophistication of Kaurna culture and language that has survived over 65,000+ years.

A typical Aboriginal meeting place symbol of three concentric circles is used to represent the conferences that were held at the very location which is on a bend of the Port River.
